Situated off the west coast of Africa, its grey and golden beaches and delightful coastal towns contrast with mountain villages, lush countryside and volcanic landscapes. Ask yourself a few simple questions? Will you be touring or mostly on the beach?
Or a mixture of both - which is what most people do. If you are going to do some touring and spend some time on the beach, then renting a car only when you need it may be the most cost-effective way for you
Always travel with your driving licence and passport as you will need to produce these if stopped. Ensure you have the rental documents and all other paperwork issued by the rental company. If you are unsure, ask the company you are hiring from to explain exactly what is required by law and that you are in possession of it.
Remember you will be driving on the right hand side, so you will be going around roundabouts the opposite way, turning into junctions differently and you will overtake in the opposite lane.
Make sure there are two hazard traffic triangles in the car. These are required by law and should be placed at the front and back of the car if you break down. Check also that you have a full complement of spare bulbs for all major lights
When you book a car, make sure you have full insurance and collision damage waiver. Check too if there are any excesses applied to your insurance in the event of an accident.
Remember the speed limits in Tenerife are: 120 kilometres per hour on motorways; 100 kilometres per hour on open roads and 50 kilometres per hour in towns.
